Pen and Ink Drawings

A mixed media drawing of lichfield cathedral. I added light watercolour washes to it in order to add more of as sense of atmosphere and light to the drawing.
I used washes again to try and define the hyberbolic shapes of the Cultural Centre Azerbaijan. Thicker and thiner pens were also useful for the thin panel outlines and thicker window mullions.
A full drawing of an aerial view of Canterbury  Cathedral using only pen and ink. It was important to use a range of linear marks to allow certain parts of the drawing to stand out.
A comparison between two Perpendicular Gothic bay sections. The earlier from Gloucester Cathedral, which would be attributed to the birth of the style with the later nave from Winchester. The style is very autocratic and unified visually.
Another drawing of a Cathedral, this time Bern minster from Switzerland with its amazing open-work Spire.
The fan vaulted cloisters are alive with panel work and their cone-like forms made for a challenging subject to draw. Fan vualts allowed for further unification of Perpendicular buildings my allowing panels to be applied to the ceiling.
Being so interested in Gothic design, I decided to try some geometrical drawings. Almost all Gothic proportions and patternes were derived from using a compass and ruler.
Another Perpendicular church drawing, this time of the North Porch into Great Malvern Priory. Looking into the porch meant I could include darker interior areas bellow the flat four centred arch into the building. Also it includes intricate parapets and pinnacles.
